Immigration FAQ

+ I have an immigration question but I live in North Carolina. Will MLO LAW, LLC be able to help me?

Yes MLO LAW, LLC can absolutely help you. Immigration is a Federal Law therefore our Immigration Attorney can advise and represent a client anywhere in the U.S. and overseas. Our Immigration consultations can be done via phone or video conferencing making it convenient for clients.

Note: MLO LAW, LLC has three office locations – St. Louis, Chicago, and Atlanta.

+ We usually get a phone call asking us how much do we charge?

Unlike ordering food from a menu, Immigration matters are slightly different.

Every case is different. As an example, Client A & Client B are both applying for a Green Card. Client A has a previous DUI (driving under influence) and Client B does not have any court orders or other criminal issues. So in this case, Case A will need additional documentation/forms and an additional fee may apply.

Most Visas have these fees:

  • USCIS filing/application fee
  • Attorney Fee
  • Administration fee (postage, copy)

Green Card fees:

  • USCIS filing/application fee
  • Attorney fee
  • Administration fee (postage, copy)
  • Medical exam fee - This is a separate fee which client pays directly to the medical provider

Note: MLO LAW, LLC offers a Client Credit program through Law Pay (Affirm) which will allow you to pay your bill over time. Please contact our office on (314) 932 7111 if you need more information about the payment plan.

+ What is your attorney fee?

Our attorney charges a fixed rate (we do not charge by the hour). Every client’s case is different and that is why at MLO LAW, LLC, clients are recommended to have a consult with the attorney first. The attorney will have a better understanding of a client’s case/situation and will be able to advise you accordingly on your options. At MLO LAW, LLC, we are upfront about our fees – clients are advised about the fees and timeline during the first consultation with our immigration attorney.

Note: MLO LAW, LLC offers a Client Credit program through Law Pay (Affirm) which will allow you to pay your bill over time. Please contact our office on (314) 932 7111 if you need more information.

+ I am a U.S citizen and would like to apply for a Green Card for my fiancé. Will you able to help me file our application?

Congratulations! Yes, we can help you with your application. We are a full-service law practice which means, we complete all the relevant USCIS forms and submit your application to USCIS. Our secured client portal allows you to upload certifications, documents easily and securely, saving time and money! Nothing is submitted to USCIS without your knowledge or consent. We do a comprehensive 4-point check on your application before it gets submitted.

+ Can I work in the U.S while waiting for my Green Card?

You can work in the U.S if you have a valid EAD (Employment Authorization Document) or if you have a valid work visa.

+ What can I expect at the medical exam for the Green Card?

The Green Card medical examination is an important step of the immigration process and is required for individuals seeking a Green Card. There is no need to stress though. The medical exam is to be completed by a USCIS authorized doctor and consists of several parts:

  • A review of your medical history and immunization records
  • A physical and mental evaluation
  • Drug and alcohol screening
  • Tests for various diseases and illnesses

MLO Law, LLC will provide you a link to a list of USCIS authorized physicians. You pick a location from that list and schedule the medical appointment. The medical provider will advise you on their charges.

+ How long is the process of an application?

Timeline varies for the different types of applications. The attorney will give you an estimated timeline based on your application. Unfortunately, we do not have control over timelines as this depends on USCIS. Once we submit your application to USCIS, we can help keep track of it.

+ What happens if I receive an RFE (Request for Evidence)?

If there is a RFE from USCIS, we help clients put together the supporting document(s). We support our clients from the time they sign-up with us up to the finish line (when they get their Visa/Citizenship). As a MLO LAW, LLC client, you can contact us via phone/email anytime.

+ Can I apply for my U.S. passport at my oath ceremony?

You will get an application for a U.S. passport at your naturalization ceremony in the U.S. Citizenship Welcome Packet. It is also available at most U.S. post offices or online at travel.state.gov. You should allow sufficient time between the naturalization ceremony and any planned travel to receive your passport. Please note, you will be required to surrender your Green Card during your Oath Ceremony.

+ What are some of things that I can/need to do after my Oath Ceremony?

  • Apply for your U.S passport
  • Update your Social Security Record. According to USCIS, you need to wait at least 10 days after your ceremony to update your record
  • As a U.S. citizen, you may register to vote. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission website has all the information you need.
  • Obtain a Certificate of Citizenship For Your Child. If you have children under 18 on the day you naturalize, they may have automatically acquired U.S. citizenship. Call MLO LAW, LLC on (314) 932 7111 and we can guide you through the process.
